Nevada HS Coach Compliance Policy
This page exists for one reason: clarity. If you are a Nevada high school coach (head coach, assistant, volunteer, trainer, “consultant”, whatever title you hide behind) and you want to run or coach private 7v7/5v5/skills/flag activity, it must remain voluntary, non-recruiting, and separate from school team decisions. NNSFL requires agreement to these standards for participation.
- Voluntary: athletes choose to participate. No pressure, no “strong suggestions,” no consequences.
- Separate: private training/7v7 is not a school program and cannot be treated like one.
- No recruiting / undue influence: do not steer athletes toward a high school or program.
- Transparency: fees must be clear and tied to real program costs (not pay-to-play intimidation).
- Any HS coach or staff member: head coach, assistant coach, JV/Frosh coach, volunteer, analyst, “trainer,” team rep.
- Any offseason football activity: private 7v7, skills sessions, position groups, combines, paid training, “club teams.”
- Any athlete: your own players, other schools’ players, middle school athletes, incoming freshmen.
- Coach private offseason training: 7v7, flag, skills, speed/agility, QB/WR/DB work.
- Coach athletes from multiple schools: provided there is no recruiting/steering.
- Teach general skills & concepts: fundamentals, technique, safe instruction.
- Charge reasonable fees: transparent costs, clear refund rules, no pay-to-play threats.
- Communicate professionally: clear policies, schedules, and boundaries with families.
- Mandatory participation: direct or indirect “you better be there.”
- Link to roster / playing time: evaluations, depth chart, captains, starting roles, tryouts, “earning trust.”
- Recruiting / steering: influencing athletes to attend/transfer to a school or program.
- Using school branding/gear/facilities: unless you have official approval from the school/district.
- Pay-to-play pressure: shaming, threats, or financial leverage tied to HS football decisions.
Nevada has rules addressing recruiting/undue influence in school athletics. If you’re “encouraging” a kid to attend your school, promising roles, or using private training as a pipeline, that’s the problem this policy is meant to prevent.
- No steering: do not direct athletes to a specific HS or program.
- No promises: playing time, roster spots, positions, scholarships, or “we’ll take care of you.”
- No pipeline behavior: private 7v7 cannot be treated like a feeder for your HS program.
NIAA calendars, seasonal restrictions, and any “dead period” guidance must be respected. In addition, coaches must follow their district and school policies (some are stricter than NIAA).
- NNSFL standard: when in doubt, follow the stricter rule.
- Keep it separate: no school facilities/gear without approval.
- Document everything: transparency protects athletes and coaches.
- I affirm this offseason/private activity is separate from my high school coaching role.
- I will not imply participation is mandatory, nor connect it to HS roster decisions or playing time.
- I will not recruit/steer athletes toward any high school program.
- I will not use school branding/equipment/facilities without official approval.
- I will respect NIAA seasonal restrictions/dead periods and my district policies.
- I accept that violations may result in removal from NNSFL participation.
