2026 NNSFL Girls Flag Rules

Official rulebook for Spring 2026. 8U–12U plays 5v5. 14U & HS plays 7v7. Fast game pace, clear standards, and zero tolerance for nonsense.

Eligibility & Divisions
  • Age Cutoff: August 1, 2025
  • 8U–12U: 5v5 format
  • 14U & HS: 7v7 format
  • High School: high school eligible age/grade (No senior boys; senior girls OK for flag)
  • Roster required: only rostered/certified players may participate
Game Play
  • Clock: 20-minute running clock
  • Clock stops: last 1 minute (official discretion for stoppages)
  • Ball placement: starts at the 40-yard line going in
  • Pass clock: QB has 5 seconds to throw
  • Interceptions: not returnable (dead at point of touch/flag)
Running Rules
  • 5v5: QB may run once per first down
  • 7v7: QB may run anytime
Standard: flag football is still football. Play hard, stay controlled, keep hands off the head/neck.
No Run Zone (5v5 Only)
  • No Run Zone: inside 5 yards to a first down or end zone = pass required
Scoring
  • Touchdown: 6
  • INT: 2 (dead ball)
  • PAT: 1 point from 5 • 2 points from 10
Zero Tolerance
  • Flag guarding: strictly enforced
  • Fighting / taunting: immediate discipline up to ejection
  • Second offense: may result in suspension or removal
Authority: referee report is primary authority. NNSFL has final discretion on discipline and disputes.
